Guru Har Gobind Sahib
was known for building the Akal Takhat. He was the first Guru to engage in
warfare and advising the Sikhs to take part in the military training and
martial arts. He established Miri- Piri. He was born at Guru Ki Wadali in
Amritsar; Punjab in 1595.His predecessor was his Guru and his father Guru Arjan
Dev. His successor was his grandson Guru
Har Rai. Guru Sahib put on two swords Miri and Piri .Miri
indicated the spiritual authority and the Piri indicated the temporal authority.
Guru Sahib as the great martial artist and always encouraged people for fitness
for physical combat .Guru Sahib had the long military force which includes
seven hundred horses and sixty gunners. He had also five hundred well trained
warriors for the battle. Guru Har Gobind built the Akal Takhat Sahib, in front
of Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. It is one of five important Takhat including
Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib, Takhat Sri Keshgarh Sahib, Takhat Sri Hazur Sahib,
Takhat Sri Patna Sahib. Guru Har Gobind founded famous city of Kiratpur
in District Amritsar, Punjab. Guru Har Gobind was imprisoned in the Gwalior fort
for a year. When other fellows insisted Guru Ji then Baba Ji made 52 chole da
kurta and freed 52 fellows. The day was celebrated as Bandhi Chhor Divas in
Sikh History.The famous city of Punjab in the Majha region was name after him
which he won over from Mughals after defeating them in a battle.
