Guru Arjan Dev was known for the compilation and installation of Adi Granth “Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji “ and for building the Harmandir Sahib. He was the first Sikh martyr who gave his life for the sake of humanity. He was born on 2 May 1563 at Goindval, Taran Taran.  India.  He was the predecessor of Guru Ram Das and his successor was Guru Hargobind. He is also known as the Fifth Guru Nanak. His parents were Guru Ram Das and Mata Bhani. He wrote the famous Sikh scripture Sukhmani Sahib. In the Mughal dynasty Guru Arjan made to sit on a burning hot Tava and boiling hot sand was poured over his body. Guru Arjan made the Masand system, a group who taught and spread the teachings and lesson of Gurus. A Sikh should offer the 10^th percent of his income to the Guru as Dasvand to support the building of Gurudwara Sahib. Guru Arjan Dev compiled to Jyoti Jot at that age of 43 on 16 June 1606 in Lahore, Pakistan.
